The first step is to obtain a work visa from the Department of Immigration. This E-Visa can be applied for either at the Cambodian Embassy in the applicant’s country of residence, or on arrival in Cambodia (which is valid for 30 days). After arrival, a 1 year Work Visa can be applied for. The duration of this permit is one year and the application is usually processed within 14 days of lodgement.
Once the Work Visa is obtained, the employee then needs to obtain a Work Permit, which is issued by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training. The application requires all of the employers information such as Memorandum and Articles of Association, address, company stamp and tax patent registration. The employee must provide an employment offer letter, copy of the E-Visa, health certificate, educational background, residential address and photo. The Work Permit is usually granted within 14 days of the application being made.
A Work Permit will expire on 31 December each year (no matter what the original approval date) and a renewal application needs to be lodged each year.
